Africa is home to some of the most impressive concentrations and diversity of wildlife left on the planet, yet many travelers fall in love with Africa while on safari through relationships developed with the local communities. Africa’s people are warm, proud and rich in heritage. This safari offers not only an outstanding wildlife experience, but the opportunity to travel off the beaten path and experience the diverse cultures of five local tribes.

Day 1: Arrive Arusha Arriving into Arusha’s Kilimanjaro airport in the late afternoon, you will be greeted upon arrival by our warm, friendly guides. You will be transferred to a nearby hotel to rest and relax after the long international flight. Enjoying a leisurely dinner, notice the sounds and smells of Africa all around you! Overnight Arusha

Day 2 After breakfast drive to the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro, to Marangu. Here you will explore the history and culture of the Chagga tribe, Tanzania’s third largest ethnic group, including visiting a local market, the Chagga cultural museum and  the sewing school supported by Real Life Adventure Travel. Overnight at the Kilimanjaro Mountain Resort.

Day 3 and 4 Tarangire National Park After breakfast depart Arusha with your guide, who will be your constant companion throughout your safari, for Tarangire National Park.  Spend the next two days in the park observing game such as elephant, wildebeest, zebra and buffalo as they journey back and forth to the Tarangire River, an important source of water in the area. Day 5: Lake Manyara National Park After breakfast enjoy a short, scenic drive to Manyara National Park. Famous for tree-climbing lions, the park also boasts healthy population of hippo, giraffe and plenty of bird life including flamingoes that reside in the parks namesake alkaline lake. Day 6: Lake Eyasi After breakfast drive west to Lake Eyasi. This alkaline soda lake, perched in the Great Rift Valley which dominates the landscape from Ethiopia all the way down into Mozambique, is home to the last remaining members of the Hadzabe and Datoga people. Numbering less than 1,000, the Hadzabe are an ancient, nomadic tribe of bushmen who are one of the last click-speaking hunter-gatherer tribes. Overnight at Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp.

Day 7-9: Serengeti National Park Enjoy a half-day drive across Tanzania’s heartland, passing red-robed Maasai herding their cattle as well as the Olduvai Gorge, where the oldest hominid fossil was discovered, along the way. Arrive at the famous Serengeti National Park in time for an afternoon game drive, enjoying the mystical, blaze orange sunset as you head to camp. Spend the next two full days rising early to catch the wildlife in peak activity during the early morning hours. After time to relax in the afternoon, journey out as the sun starts to set for an afternoon game drive. Swap stories with fellow safari-goers in camp over hearty dinners and fall asleep to the sounds of the African bush all around you. Overnight Serengeti.

Day 10: Ngorongoro Crater Today you’ll experience first hand what has been called “one of the 7 natural wonders of the world.” The crater is home to an amazing concentration and diversity of wildlife, perhaps most importantly the rare black rhinoceros. Drive down the steep walls of the crater, arriving at the crater floor in time for lunch, viewing wildlife the whole time. Overnight Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge

Day 11: Spend the full day at Rhotia Valley exploring the local Iroqui village, children’s home and surrounding area of Rhotia Valley. Overnight Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge

Day 12: After breakfast drive back to Moshi, stopping at local markets, a Maasai village and the popular Meserani Snake Park along the way. Purchase final gifts, take your last photos and remember fondly what an amazing adventure you’ve just had in Africa! Board your international flight home as the sun sets over the hills of Africa.
